Travertine is a variation of limestone that was exposed to heat and pressure. Like limestone, travertine is porous and should not be overexposed to liquids. Using travertine in high traffic areas may require frequent cleaning and resealing. Travertine is usually honed and has rougher texture compared to granite and marble. Travertine is usually applied as flooring material in residences.
